Product Recycling in accordance with WEEE Legislation, what does it mean for me?
The Waste and Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) is EU Legislation which aims to minimise the impact of electrical and electronic goods on the environment, by increasing re-use and recycling and reducing the amount of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) going to landfill.
It seeks to achieve this by making producers of WEEE responsible for financing its collection, treatment, and recovery, and by obliging distributors of WEEE to allow consumers to return their waste equipment free of charge.
UK Online fully supports recycling of WEEE equipment and offers free take-back of WEEE when new equipment is purchased.
Why should I recycle my old Equipment?
Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) contains hazardous substances which can have a negative impact on the environment and human health if they are disposed of incorrectly. Recycling WEEE also helps to recover valuable resources which reduce the need for raw materials. UK Online products are marked with a crossed-out wheelie symbol as we want to encourage their separate collection.
By collecting WEEE separately, we can ensure it is sent for specialist treatment and recycling. Products which are returned to us will be treated and recycled to the necessary environmental standards.
How do I recycle old electrical equipment - i.e. broadband router?
Old electrical and electronic equipment should not be disposed with general waste. Instead it should be collected separately and sent for specialist treatment and recycling.
UK Online offers free take-back of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) when new equipment is purchased from us. This means that if you purchase a new product (e.g. a broadband router) we will take back a similar product that the new product is replacing (e.g. your old broadband router) - even if that equipment is not UK Online equipment.
If you have old or redundant UK Online electrical and electronic equipment please put it in appropriate packaging, mark for recycling, and return to us free of charge at the following address:

Alternatively you can take WEEE to your local Designated Collection Facility. Please go to www.recycle-more.co.uk for details of locations.
What is a Designated Collection Facility (DCF)?
UK Online has joined the nationwide waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) Take Back Scheme. Through this scheme we are helping to fund local independent collection points for WEEE.
Note if you're a business you are not permitted to take equipment to local Designated Collection Facilities.
Why can't I put my old Equipment out with my normal household recycling?
Waste electrical and electronic equipment can only be recycled by specialist companies. Materials collected by your general household recycling service are sent to a sorting facility where the materials are separated and sent on for recycling. These facilities are not set up to deal with waste electrical and electronic equipment.
What does the crossed out wheelie bin symbol on electrical and electronic products mean?
The crossed out wheelie bin symbol is used to mark products that should not be disposed with general household waste, but collected separately for reuse or recycling.
What happens to electrical and electronic equipment sent back to UK Online?
All waste electrical and electronic equipment which is returned to us is treated and recycled to the necessary environmental standards.
How can I recycle my product packaging?
Packaging helps to protect our products between being produced and used by the customer. We are working to ensure our packaging has the least impact on the environment as possible and we are aiming to reduce the amount of packaging, select sustainable packaging materials and encourage the recycling of the packaging we supply to customers.
You can help by recycling any packaging materials you receive. In addition to cutting down greenhouse gases generated by landfill, less energy is used in creating recycled products than in manufacturing the original article, so emissions are reduced.
